As you are probably aware, Denver International Airport has embarked on a large-scale, $1.2
billion expansion that will span over the next 7 years. This ambitious effort includes everything
from a new automated baggage system to a commuter rail station to additional space for retail.
In light of the immediacy of the expansion, we launched the DIA Way in March 2008. This
series of half-day, industry-specific forums provides certified minority and women business
owners with presentations on the contracting outlook and a review of airport contracting
requirements such as security and insurance. These forums also provide us with an opportunity
to facilitate teaming relationships with prime contractors and M/WBEs. We have scheduled
several DIA Way forums throughout the year, with the next one planned for May 16, 2008.
If you have members that can benefit from these forums, and if they have not done so already,
please encourage them to apply for their City certification so that they can be included in future
forums. Certification forms are available on the DIA Web site at
www.flydenver.com/diabiz/bizops/resources.asp. Any questions regarding certification can be
directed to Sharon Hill at 303-342-2187.
We are also developing a pamphlet that will serve as a quick reference guide to airport
procurement contacts for small businesses. Once the pamphlet is completed, we will send some
copies to you to share with your members.
I appreciate your on-going support of Denver International Airport’s efforts to reach out to
minority and women entrepreneurs. Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to
contact me.
Sincerely,
Brenda LeDay Love
