Looking for a way to give back to the community? You can help "at-risk" youth beat the odds by being a volunteer. Volunteers with Colorado "I Have a Dream"® (CIHAD) Foundation provide guidance, caring and encouragement to "at-risk" youth (Dreamers). Become part of our team: assist our staff in helping our Dreamers reach their goal of high school graduation.
Tutor/After-school Program
The CIHAD Tutor works with Dreamers after school. Younger Dreamers will have a structured group after-school program, while older Dreamers are more one-on-one. The role of the tutor is to assist the Dreamers with homework, provide positive reinforcement, and serve as a positive role model. All volunteers are trained and receive ongoing support from CIHAD. Tutors must commit to at least 1-2 hours per week for a minimum of one school semester.
Mentor
A Mentor is a positive role model who meets the same Dreamer on a one-to-one basis for a year or more. Under the supervision of a Project Coordinator, the Mentor meets with his or her Mentee/Dreamer at least every other week and provides homework/academic assistance, exposure to professional environments, and coordinates age-appropriate activities. All volunteers are trained and receive ongoing support from CIHAD. Mentors must commit to at least 6-12 hours per month for a minimum of one year.
